Alpine Electronics Research of America Selects Birdstep's RDM Mobile Database for Prototyping of their Next Generation In-Car Navigation Product.
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 28, 2008 -- Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD), which offers state of the art embedded database technologies, today announced that Alpine Electronics Research of America has selected RDM Mobile for prototyping of their next generation in-car navigation product.
Alpine Electronics Research of America prototyping effort will use RDM Mobile to manage navigation system content. "When managing the growing number of POIs, and then delivering this information to the consumer in the quickest and most accurate way possible, it is important to use efficient indexing methods that accommodate the highest degree of flexibility. With the unique offerings of the Raima Database Manager (RDM) Mobile product, we feel we will be able to prototype a competitive next generation in-car navigation solution to our OEMs and provide a higher degree of satisfaction to the end-user," says Masaki Motoyama Ph.D., Chief Engineer Navigation Development, adding "next generation navigation products are beginning to handle larger amounts of complex data and consumers are demanding more from their in-car systems. As time goes on, and the market continues to require greater functionality, Alpine Electronics Research of America is confident that Birdstep has a portfolio of solutions along with a very supportive engineering staff and professional services organization that will scale nicely to meet these ever-growing market requirements."
"Birdstep has been dedicated to producing solutions that allow our customers expanded flexibility in how they model their data. Traditional indexing methods and database architectures don't always work the best for unique requirements, such as you find in navigation applications. We feel that we have the right set of solutions to help solve complex problems found in many of today's deeply embedded automotive systems," commented Duncan Bates, VP of Product Management for Birdstep.
About The Raima Database Manager Family (http://www.raima.com/products)
Raima released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into three successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM Server. Augmenting the two is RDM Mobile, ideally suited for consumer electronics and low cost mobile devices such as set-top boxes, mp3 players etc. Please find free SDK downloads of the RDM Products at http://www.raima.com/downloads/
